Seelbach's Private Reserve Cask Strength 10 Year Old Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Though I generally drink this on the rocks, this is fantastic neat too. In fact, as I sat with it here neat, it was hard to pour the last bit on ice to make the second half of my notes.

 Toffee, dried cherries, baking spices, cloves, vanilla, maple, some charred oak. Extreme intensity, and thats the word i use for a whiskey’s ability to handle ice, without falling apart. Most whiskey loses quite a bit on ice, some from being watered down, and lots from cooler temps slowing molecules, but often a whiskey can gain things from the water; open up flavors that don’t appear at the higher proofs. Here nothing is lost!

It’s incredible how potent the nose is with .5oz of whiskey, and a nearly 2oz cube in the glass.

The fruit increases a bit, dried cherries, candied orange peel emerges, vanilla gets more potent, the spices become sweeter, candied corn emerges. As it waters down further, plum emerges. If you like Bookers, this is for you. Less beam peanut brittle notes, but more concentration, intensity and richness fruit.

This has not been disclosed but the fruit profile on this screams Four Roses, perhaps OESQ or OBSQ. Generally OESQ wouldnt show so much spice, but at 133.1 proof it can often be difficult to decipher spice vs heat.
