Educational Tasting: Wild Turkey & Russel's Rickhouse! (730PM, Friday April 17th, 2026)

Part 3 of "my big 5 Bourbon distilleries." Four Roses was up first, and Buffalo Trace second, but next, on April 17th, we have Wild Turkey, while Jim Beam & Heaven Hill are still to come! These 5 are some of the most important distilleries in Bourbon, and American Whiskey, producing large amounts making it available to everyone, while also producing some of the most iconic bottlings around.

Wild Turkey has been a beacon in Bourbon distilling for many decades, and a cornerstone going back to the 19th century. Ironically, the glut seemed to hurt their branding more than most, despite being among the best producers during that time, so their more recent revival has been more than welcomed by bourbon enthusiasts, myself included. It has been one long voyage, and though they once again have many world class bottlings, the older bottlings are certainly unforgotten. Like Four Roses, their line of products is quite focused, with their bottlings mainly being labeled with Wild Turkey or Russel's Reserve.

For this class we'll dive into a bit of the history, while we try to uncover the identity of WT that we find in their range of bottlings. If you were savy enough to note the italics above, I do want to warn that it was just a bit of fun, and there will not be any Wild Turkey Master's Keep in the lineup, however there will be stunners!

One of the more recent editions from Wild Turkey, and most sought after bottles today is Russel's Reserve Single Richouse and we will be tasting the 3rd editon from 2024!
