2009 Feudi di San Gregorio Serpico IGT
100% Aglianico from the iconic producer Feudi di San Gregorio in Taurasi
Campania Italy
About the grape: Aglianico is a super tannic, high acid grape fround mostly in the southern regions of Italy Campania & Basilicata. Famously in the volcanic zones of Taurasi within Irpinia, Campania and Vulture, Basilicata. Generally dark fruited, with black cherry and spiced plum, but also often shows balsamic, smoke and a gamey side, as well as notes of herbs.
About the producer:
Founded back in 1986 in Irpinia, Campagna (Campania in English) Feudi di San Gregorio quickly became one of the most important wineries in the region. They focus on indigenous grapes, Fiano di Avellino, Grecco di Tufo, and perhaps most famously, and as in the case of Serpico, Aglianico. Feudi di San Gregorio makes wines modern stylistically using French Barrique, and also some 50 hl barrels which are toasted. The heavy oak influence masks the rustic side of Aglianico, which can often show significant balsamic notes in its youth
