“Our 1998 Seña remembers the style of flavours of 1996 vintage, but with more intensity and depth. It is a very elegant wine showing red fruits like cassis, strawberries, blackberries, and dry black cherries. All of this fruit character is mixed with tobacco, dark sugar and spice. On the palate, the ripe structure gives a velvety structure and so ness because of the eighteen months barrel ageing. The round mouth-filling melts with flavours of cassis and caramel that linger during a long time and ends with a soft sweet finish.” Tim Mondavi, Winemaker February 2000

Producer Notes:
Seña, was created as a joint venture between Chilean Eduardo Chadwick and American Robert Mondavi way back in 1995. their aim was to make a wine that would demonstrate the full potential of Chile. Modelled on a Bordeaux style, it would have a Chilean soul, with its grapes grown under biodynamic farming principles in the Aconcagua Valley. their dream was to create a wine that would be welcomed, in time, among the world's First Growths.

Vintage Notes:
The El Niño phenomenon brought on a cold, rainy winter and spring that affected all of Chile’s wine regions. The greatest challenge was controlling potential plant vigour due to the increase in groundwater. Despite average temperatures during the spring and summer, tannins were a bit slow to ripen, which led to a later harvest that began in the third week of March for Merlot and in the third week of April for Cabernet Sauvignon. The final result was a very healthy harvest with grapes that reached the winery with adequate natural acidity levels.
